Quadra Island, BC
Only a 10-minute ferry ride from Campbell River, Quadra Island is a world of it’s own. Three main communities make up the island. Cape Mudge, home to the We-Wai-Kai band of the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation; Quathiaski Cove, the island’s commercial hub; and Heriot Bay.
Learn about the Kwakwaka’wakw culture at the Kwagiulth Museum & Cultural Centre in Cape Mudge. The collection consists of Potlatch artifacts including ceremonial dress and masks. Watch artists as they create works of art at the Carving and Artist Centre and then tour though the site and discover historic totem poles.
Three areas on the Island prominently display ancient petrogylphs: Franciso Point, Pertoglyph Road, and Wa-Wa-Kai Beach along the high tide line. Be sure to take you camera along, as these aged native artworks are truly awe-inspiring.
